SO SUSSEX get particularly excited about being out and about in the woods as autumn comes about because mushrooms start popping up all over the place. Be warned thouh, this is an activity that can border on becoming an obsession! As the leaves start to fall and autumn mists appear you can often find us poking our noses into the undergrowth looking for Ceps, Chanterelle and Hedgehog fungi... why don’t you join us?
We know which mushrooms are edible and how best to use them and we can package a mushroom walk together with a cookery course run by a local family so you can enjoy the fruits ( or mushrooms ) of your labour. Food doesn’t get much fresher than that!
We also have another little trick up our sleeve. There aren’t many people in this country who know how to dye wool with mushrooms to create pretty much every colour of the rainbow, and a few more on top of that. A technique handed down through generations that gives an amazing range of colours, all natural and requiring no fixatives. We can demonstrate how this works and how to weave this wool to make some beautiful scarves, perfect for a wnters day.
